Introductory
Course Overview
Responding to incidents involving electric vehicles (EVs) and hazardous gases presents unique challenges that require specialist knowledge and equipment. Gas detectors are critical tools for ensuring responder and public safety, but their effectiveness depends on understanding how to use them correctly. This course provides emergency responders with the skills and confidence to deploy gas detection equipment effectively, interpret readings accurately, and make informed decisions at EV incidents and other hazardous environments.
Delegates will learn how to recognise and assess gas-related risks, including carbon monoxide exposure, hydrogen sulphide hazards, and oxygen enrichment or deficiency. The course also covers essential safety measures for working around EVs, including how to define gas detection boundaries, respond to alarm activations, and safely isolate electric vehicles. Through practical exercises and real-world case studies, participants will develop the ability to apply gas detection techniques to enhance incident safety and risk management.
By attending this course, responders will gain the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to improve scene safety, protect their teams, and ensure effective incident response.
